MLS football side LAFC (Los Angeles FC) are through to the round of 16 in the US Open Cup after they saw off fellow MLS football team Portland Timbers in the round of 32. LAFC beat fellow MLS football outfit Portland Timbers 2-0 at home to their last 32 tie to advance into the last 16 stage of the competition.
Cristian Arango and Mamadou Fall were on the scoresheet for LAFC as they progressed to the next stage of the US Open Cup. Toronto FC erased a first-half deficit to score a pair of unanswered goals, including a sensational solo effort by Alejandro Pozuelo early in the second half during a 2-1 win Saturday night over the Philadelphia Union at BMO Field. Julián Carranza opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a back-post headed finish off a Mikael Uhre service.
But the Reds responded just five minutes later with Jonathan Osorio and Jesús Jiménez playing a one-two before the Spanish forward curled his effort inside the far post for the equalizer – his fourth goal in seven matches. MLS football club Charlotte FC will have to be without midfielder Chris Hegardt for eight weeks after he picked up an injury in traiming. The MLS football outfit announced in the week that Hegardt would be sidelined for around eight weeks after a meniscectomy surgery was carried out on him earlier this week.
20-year-old Hegardt suffered an injury to his meniscus during Charlotte FC training. The young midfielder was used as a substitute in the first two games of the recently started MLS football season. Hegardt was used as a substitute for the game against D. C. United and he was also a substitute when Charlotte FC played against Los Angeles Galaxy (LA Galaxy). Premier League top-four chasers West Ham United have been rebuffed in their quest to sign striker Valentin Castellanos from MLS football team New York City FC according to the report via Italian media portal TuttoMercato Web. It was stated that the Hammers made a €10m (£8.5m) bid for Castellanos and it was turned down by MLS football club New York City FC and that they have made another bid for the 23-year-old striker.
West Ham United manager David Moyes is keen to add a new striker to his squad this season to relieve the pressure on Jamaican international Michail Antonio ahead of what promises to be a busy second half of the season for the East London team. The Hammers are in a battle with four teams for two top-four spots in the league and they are still in two cup competitions. West Ham United are in the race for a Premier League top-four place with three London rivals namely Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in addition to Manchester United. American striker Jozy Altidore could leave MLS football side Toronto FC at the end of the 2021 season according to respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. Ex-Hull City attacker Altidore could end his seven-year association with MLS football team Toronto FC by mutual termination.
Altidore, 32, has been at Toronto FC since 2015 and his exit would leave a Designated Player spot open for the MLS football club who missed out on the playoffs at the end of the regular season this year on the back of nearly winning the Supporters’ Shield last year.
