MLS FOOTBALL: SEATTLE SOUNDERS DETHRONED

 

Seattle Sounders have been dethroned as the kings of MLS football after they were beaten in the MLS Cup final by Columbus Crew. Seattle Sounders were hoping to retain their title as the kings of MLS football against their opponents only to end up on the side of a heavy defeat. Seattle Sounders were heavily beaten by Columbus Crew who are now the new kings of MLS football. Columbus Crew SC thrashed Seattle Sounders 3-0 in the 2020 MLS Cup final to dethrone their opponents as the kings of MLS football.


Seattle Sounders had won the MLS Cup last year by beating Toronto FC 3-1 in the final thereby winning the competition for the second time in their history. Their maiden MLS Cup win was in 2016. They qualified for the MLS Cup final in 2020 by edging Minnesota United in a five-goal thriller. Seattle Sounders emerged as the Western Conference champions by beating Minnesota United FC 3-2 courtesy the winning goal from Gustav Svensson.Seattle Sounders came from two goals down at home to win the game. Emmanuel Reynoso and BakayeDibassyscored either side of the interval to hand Minnesota United a 2-0 leadinto the last quarter of an hour. Will Bruin pulled one back on 75 minutes before Raul Ruidiazequalised for Seattle Sounders with a minute left on the clock to pave the way for the added time winner from Svensson.

In the Eastern Conference final, Colombus Crew beat New England Revolution 1-0 at home courtesy the goal from Arturjust before the hour mark. In the MLS Cup final, Lucas Zelarayan was the star of the game with his brace either side of the break and the second goal scored by Derrick Etienne. It was a dominant performance from the new kings of MLS football. Columbus Crew SC have now won the MLS Cup two times and for the first time since their first triumph in 2008.
