Buying a MLS franchise club has become significantly more costly

For the past few months, there has been news emerging with more and more franchise clubs appearing which will be competing in the MLS. Franchises from Atlanta, Minnesota and Los Angeles have been the latest ones.

Both Atlanta and Los Angeles are expected to be competing in the MLS starting from the season of 2018-19 while Minnesota United is scheduled to be sooner as it’s debut season is predicted to be at the season of 2017-18.

David Beckham’s Miami franchise club is also underway as the MLS continues to be getting bigger as each year rolls by, however, buying a franchise club from now on will be more expensive as this was announced by the MLS Deputy Commissioner Mark Abbott.

The MLS is generally considered to be a not so expensive option for aspiring sports team owners as they could get a MLS franchise team without spending so much money in comparison to other sports and businesses.

This has now turned into a more expensive sports venture as the expansion fees have almost doubled to at least $200 million.

It has been stated on various occasions that by 2020, the MLS would have 28 teams competing against each other in search for the league title. This increase in the expansion fee could hamper the amount of franchise clubs that enter the league in the desired timeline.

Sacramento, Cincinnati, San Diego, St. Louis, Detroit, Charlotte and Oklahoma City are the prospective cities that could make franchise clubs and compete in the MLS. The American League has turned football into a more recognizable sport in United States and with these increasing amount of clubs can only make things better for all the fans of the sport.
