BULLS ON FORM

New York Red Bulls continued their impressive form after a 2-0 victory over Toronto in the MLS. This was a victory that was largely achieved because of the brilliance of former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry, who scored his 400th goal of his career. This was also his ninth goal of the season, which led to the praise from manager Mike Petke. It was widely believed that the manager had a huge bust up with Thierry Henry during training, but it seems that this bust up has actually benefited the team because they have been on a rich vein of form in recent weeks.

Even though Henry contributed to the team by scoring a goal, Mike Petke said that it was his defensive performance that impressed him a lot. Even though he is a striker, Henry was prepared to trackback and defend for his team, which was really well difference between his team winning according to Petke. Midfielder McCarty has said that the good run of form in recent weeks has been down to the consistent selection from the manager, while the bust up between Henry and the manager also being a reason.

The club are currently top of the table with a three-point advantage over Montreal Impact.

“Thierry’s goal the last two weeks is a product of everybody behind him and the quality that he has, of course, at the end of it. It’s great to have him scoring two weeks in a row, but I’m equally as pleased as what he’s doing aside from the goals. You saw him tonight, Thierry Henry, sprinting back 40 yards, four or five different times into our half to defend. It’s phenomenal,” said Petke. “For me, it’s not just Mike and Thierry,” said midfielder McCarty speaking about the recent run of form for his club.
