DC United’s slow start to the season Continued

DC United’s slow start to the season continued after a disappointing 1-1 draw with San Jose Earthquakes.

The club are still waiting for their first win of the campaign. They have managed to draw three and lose two of their opening five matches. Against San Jose Earthquakes, it looked like the team was going to end the disappointing start to the campaign after they took the lead in the 34th minute through Nyarko. The team held onto this advantage for almost the entire match before conceding a late equaliser to Jahn. The draw leaves the club just one place above the bottom and puts serious pressure on manager Ben Olsen.

Astonishingly, DC United have not managed to win against San Jose since 1998. Back then, head coach Ben Olsen was part of the team as a player in his first campaign at the club.Olsen admitted after the match that the players were very much looking forward to getting the first win of the campaign. This would have helped them to take a monkey off their back. United, along with Columbus Crew, are the only two teams not to have won a single game in the 2016 campaign. The club are up against Vancouver Whitecaps, who are unbeaten in the last three, in the next league encounter.

“I think the guys are disappointed in that locker room, because we’d like to get that [winless streak] off our backs. But it’s still about the process. It’s still about finding out who we are and what we’re made of. I thought tonight, we hung in there against a tough team to play, at home. We’ve got to find ways to finish out games and put together 90-plus minutes of focus and concentration. Tonight, I thought we had it, for the most part. We’ll just keep building,” said Olsen.
